Residents of Bantama and other communities in the Constituency say they are reporting increased armed robbery in the area.
At a town hall meeting, market women, in particular, said they have become targets of attack, a situation which is taking a toll on businesses.
Bantama Constituency has a population of over 250,000 which spreads across 10 electoral areas.
Residents say they live in fear as robbery has become very rampant in the community.
They want authorities to intervene.
“We are scared to even go out at night, when I wake up at dawn set off to the market I need to be accosted by someone else armed robbers may attack me, they averagely attack us three times in every week.
This menace is taking a toll on our businesses some of the market women have stopped going to market. We want swift intervention by authorities,” a resident complained.
Member of Parliament for Bantama, Daniel Okyem–Aboagye, hints of community watch groups to augment police effort at combating crime.
“We are being bombarded with armed robbery activities here in Bantama and its surrounding communities.
Because Bantama is flagged as with business centers such as Bantama market, cultural centre, Metro Mass Terminal and other business activities, it attracts people and therefore thieves and other unscrupulous persons troop in here.
We have planned to set up a well structured community watch groups to augment police effort at combating crime.”
Mr. Okyem Aboagye assures residents of effective security to end the menace.
