Banning of names in the country not surprising – Nacee

Multiple award-winning artiste, Nana Kweku Osei, popularly known as Nacee has stated categorically that he is not surprised local names have been banned by the Birth and Death registry.
Nacee’s message comes on the heels of a policy by the Birth and Death Registry that indigenous Ghanaian names such as “Maame, Papa, Nana, Junior, Nene, Nii, Ohemaa and others will not be registered.
The registry considers such names as titles.

Reacting to this policy on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, the gospel musician said he cannot fathom why foreign names would be allowed in the country while local names would be banned.
The ‘Efata Wo’ hitmaker blamed some leaders in the country who have allowed foreigners to dictate to us.
“If Prince which is a foreign name and not our language can be accepted, why can’t we be proud of what we have here?” he queried.

He therefore called on the bigwigs in the country to sit up and safeguard our culture.
“What is wrong with our leaders drawing us closer to them than sitting far from us and criticizing us? I don’t know what is wrong with Ghanaians. Prince can be allowed but Nana is not…” Nacee told host Andy Dosty.
