The Bank of Ghana has hinted of an introduction of an upgrade in the Ghana Cedi banknotes which would be circulated by May 6, 2019.
In a statement issued by the Central Bank dated Monday April 8, 2019, it explained the upgrade will have enhanced security features in line with evolving changes in the technological landscape and improve the durability and machine readability of the cedi.

“The enhanced feature will have an Optically Variable Magnetic Image (SPARK LIVE), new Enhanced Security Thread (RAPID), More Prominent Watermark and an enhanced Iridescent Band at the back of the banknote,” the statement revealed.
