Banana farmers in Suminakese, a farming community in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region, have raised concerns about persistent insect bites, which they believe are linked to the banana plantations in the area.n

The farmers fear that frequent bites, especially in the mornings, may pose a threat to their eyesight and overall health.

Assembly Member for the area, Seth Anom, attributed the insect infestation to the banana plantations and called on the Health Directorate and the Ministry of Agriculture to intervene and provide assistance.

The issue came to light during a free eye screening exercise organized by the Ankoma and Baffour Foundation for residents of Suminakese.

Werempehene of Kwahu Aduamoa, Nana Yaw Ankoma Acheampong, said reports of farmers being affected by insects due to the banana plantations motivated the foundation to conduct the screening.

The results revealed that many farmers suffer from eye problems, prompting calls for urgent intervention from the relevant authorities.
