The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has officially sworn in the first-ever Committee on Security and Intelligence, established under Order 258 (4) of the new Standing Orders of Parliament, which came into effect in January 2024.
During the swearing-in ceremony, the Speaker congratulated the committee members while urging them to exercise diligence and discretion in their work.
He emphasised the sensitive and critical nature of security matters, which not only concern Parliament but also the entire nation.
The committee, responsible for overseeing national security and intelligence issues, will be chaired by Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, with Oscar Ofori Larbi serving as vice-chairman.
Other members include Mahama Ayariga, Ernest Henry Norgbey, Samuel Nartey George, Bede Ziedeng, James Gyakye Quayson, Benjamin Narteh Ayiku, Alhassan Kobina Ghansah, Nicholas Amankwah, Joseph Tetteh Akuerteh, and Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor.
This marks a significant milestone in parliamentary oversight, reinforcing efforts to strengthen security governance and intelligence monitoring in Ghana.
The committee is expected to work closely with key national security agencies to enhance coordination and ensure the country’s safety.
