Baako lauds gov’t for showing intent with $400m for 1D1F initiative

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr, says the decision by the Chinese government to release $ 400 million to support government’s one district; one factory initiative is laudable.

According to him, the move is proof that government is serious about the implementation of the policy.

“For once, I am happy it [government] is working, some money has come. I think the government is showing signs of seriousness that it really means business with the introduction of this project,” he said on Accra-based Metro TV Thursday as monitored by Adomonline.com.

Government says the $ 400 million will go into the construction of 22 factories across the country to produce starch, textiles, among others.

China National Building Material Cooperation (CNBM), representatives of the Chinese government is expected to supply the equipment needed.

Mr. Baako is convinced the Chinese will commit more resources to the project which is expected to improve the well-being of Ghanaians.

“I know the Chinese will deliver. Let’s all wait till 2020 to assess the project. The good people of this country will also assess it. If indeed you build factories, employ people to work there, it will have effects”, he said.

Mr. Baako who described the policy as a good concept urged government to concentrate more on the districts as a requirement.

“The focus is on district industrialization. The truth is that it’s a good concept that ought to be worked on, if we indeed want to stop rural-urban drift,” he explained.
