Awutu Senya West MP opposes proposed change to 2024 collation centre

The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, has raised concerns over plans to relocate the collation center for the 2024 elections.

For the past eight election cycles, the Awutu Bereku Durbar Grounds have served as the constituency’s collation center.

However, the MP revealed that the police have proposed moving the center to Awutu Winton Senior High School, a suggestion she described as unfortunate and potentially disruptive to the peace of the constituency.

Addressing the leadership of the local council of churches in Bawjiase, Gizella Tetteh urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police to ensure swift action.

“We have been conducting collation at the Awutu Bereku Durbar Grounds for nearly eight elections. Just last week, we were invited by the police to the Regional Command and informed that the IGP is proposing a new venue, which is Awutu Winton Senior High School.

“My concern is why the IGP is suggesting this change when there was a prior agreement on the Durbar Grounds. Such a move could threaten the peace we currently enjoy.

“In the last elections, there were attempts by vigilante groups in Obrakyere to steal ballot boxes, but one of the culprits was caught and dealt with by an angry mob. I encourage everyone to promptly report any suspicious actions to the police to maintain order,” she said.
