Awana Games Competition: Shalom Baptist Church emerges as overall champion

-

The El Wak Sports Stadium was abuzz with excitement as 12 competing churches and community clubs gathered for the highly anticipated Awana Games Competition.

The event, held on August 10, 2024, brought together young people from various denominations for a day filled with sports, teamwork, and spiritual growth.

Awana is a global discipleship program aimed at reaching children and youth with the Gospel, teaching them valuable life skills and leadership principles.

The competition serves as a culmination of this discipleship process, fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship, and healthy competition among participants.

This year’s event, marking Awana Clubs Ghana’s 40th Anniversary, saw Shalom Baptist Church emerge as the overall champion, winning both the coveted Overall Trophy and the Girls’ Trophy. Korle Bu Community Chapel claimed the Boys’ Trophy, showcasing their skills and determination.

The competition featured a range of unique events, including the Bean Bag Relay, Balloon Burst, Bean Bag Toss, Sprint Relay, and Marathon Relay. The atmosphere was electric, with cheering crowds and vibrant music adding to the excitement.

According to organizers, the Awana Games Competition is more than just a sporting event – it’s a platform for young people to grow in their faith, develop teamwork skills, and build lasting relationships.

“Awana Games is an integral part of our discipleship process,” said Rev. Joseph Gyebi, National Director of Awana Ghana. “It provides a unique opportunity for young people to come together, have fun, and deepen their relationship with God.”

As the dust settled on the competition, participants and spectators alike celebrated the true spirit of Awana Games – a spirit of unity, friendship, and glorifying God through sports.

“Glory to God for an amazing event!” exclaimed Francis, a participant from Shalom Baptist Church. “We’re thrilled to have won, but more importantly, we’ve grown closer to God and to each other.”

The Awana Games Competition will return next year, promising even more excitement, teamwork, and spiritual growth. Congratulations to all participants and winners!
