Audio: UEW 2019 graduation postponed indefinitely

The Management and the Academic Board of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has postponed indefinitely its 2018/2019 students graduation ceremony which was scheduled for July 22, 2019 due to the absence of a school Governing Council.

The decision of the school authorities followed an end of the last Governing Council’s tenure on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. Another Council is yet to be reconstituted.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, Public Relations Officer of the University, Ernest Azutigah urged the students to exercise restraint because the issue was beyond their control.

“The Congregation for the students of the 2018/2019 academic year on the Winneba, Kumasi and Ashanti Region campuses has been postponed indefinitely due to the absence of a school Governing Council. This is beyond the academic Board but we are doing our best to help the situation.

“We hope that the Governing Council would be reconstituted by Monday to enable us go ahead with the ceremony,” he assured.

The UEW Students Representative Council President, Emmanuel Oduro Fosu, who explained the frustration of the students, said they need their certificates to enter the job market and can’t be at home when their colleagues from other institutions have graduated.

About 16,000 students from both the Winneba and Kumasi campuses of the university are expected to graduate in the 2018/2019 congregation.
