Audio: Snakes invade Gomoa Tekyiam gov’t school

-

Dangerous reptiles, particularly pythons and other snakes, have invaded the Gomoa Tekyiam D/A government school in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

The reptiles according to Adom News’ Kofi Adjei have become frequent visitors to the school from a nearby forest, and appear, sometimes, during class hours, sending both teachers and pupils running for their lives.

Some pupils who spoke to Kofi Adjei said many of snakes had dug holes close to the school as their abode and laying eggs in them as well.

The pupils say some of them who fear reptiles usually absent themselves from school, therefore affecting attendance.

Headmistress of the school, Madam Faustina Owusu Ansah told Adom News these reptiles pose a threat to teachers and pupils as a result of the dilapidated classroom blocks.

She said due to the weak nature of the school building, classes are held under trees thereby exposing the children to snakes.

Madam Owusu Ansah appealed to the government to as a matter of urgency intervene to avert any calamity.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Gomoa East Constituency, Kojo Asemeyin says, the school building has been declared as death trap by Ghana Education Services but wondered why the pupils were still studying in the classrooms.

This notwithstanding, he promised to help the school as soon as possible.
