Parents and students who have been successfully placed in Senior High Schools (SHS) across the country have thronged the schools as admission processes begins today.
The process which started over the weekend received very low patronage but reports indicates that the situation is quite different on Monday morning.
The Parents and students are in the school to mainly collect prospectus and other admission requirements.
Adom News’ Illiasu Abdul Rauf reported on Adom Midday News Monday that some students in Tamale claim they could not find their names in the admission list of the school.
“I can’t find my name in the admission list meanwhile I was sure this is the school I got and now I feel stranded because I can’t go back home” one student cried ou.
They are therefore calling on government to intervene.
Meanwhile, Former Deputy Minister of Education who is also the MP for North Tongu Samuel is urging government to look for a sustainable source of revenue to fund the free SHS policy or there could be disaster.
But Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum says government is adequately resourced to fund the Free SHS policy and hence there is no cause for alarm.
He is also calling on Ghanaians who have issues with the SHS placement to report to the various regional educations offices across the country for redress.
The free Senior High School policy begins in all public senior high schools across the country today, September 11, 2017.
The free SHS policy, to cost 3.6 billion Ghana cedis each year, was a major campaign promise by then candidate Nana Akufo Addo in both the 2012 and 2016 elections.
A little over 400, 000 students are expected to benefit from the policy that will exempt them from paying for tuition and other fees.
