Audio: Rawlings can’t take over NDC – Allotey

Central Regional Chairman of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Allotey Jacobs says former President Jerry John Rawlings cannot take control the party as it was sometime back.

According to him, the party has outgrown the Rawlings’ so it is about time that the former president realizes that.

His comments follow revelation by President Rawlings that he nearly parted ways with the party because he felt neglected by the current executives of the party.

Speaking at the 2017 June 4 celebration, Rawlings complained that the party has veered off from its basic principles and called for a change in the leadership of the party.

Flt Lt Rawlings who spoke from both a prepared speech as well as extempore said so much fire was burning inside him but confessed that he had been compelled to hold back by some leading members of the party who feared his heavy criticism will affect the party adversely after a bad electoral defeat.

He has described the current spate of corruption as a thousand times more than what prevailed prior to the June 4 uprising.

“If we are unable to restore a firm measure of integrity into our dealings, then the blood of many would have been shed in vain,” he said.

But commenting on the issue, Allotey Jacobs said that he is happy that Rawlings did not leave the party but he cannot take dominance over the party.
