Audio: Police shoots woman over 50 pesewas road toll

A policeman on a checkpoint duty at Moree tollbooth in the Central Region has allegedly shot into a vehicle to injure a female passenger.

The officer allegedly shot into the vehicle because its driver failed to pay a 50Gp road toll.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the saloon vehicle went past the toll booth without paying the 50 pesewas rate.

The police officer who understood the driver’s action to mean she was escaping payment of the toll, fired at the saloon car, injuring a passenger in the process.

Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Irene Oppong, said the policeman involved is a constable and has been detained for further investigations.

DSP Oppong confirmed the incident, saying the passenger indeed sustained injuries from the gunshot and has been sent to the Interbetin Hospital in Cape Coast for treatment.
