The Minority in Parliament has called on the Akufo-Addo government to terminate the concession agreement with Power Distribution Services (PDS).
The call by the Minority follows a decision by government to suspend PDS’ concession for distribution of power in Ghana, following what it said was the discovery “of fundamental and material breaches of PDS’ obligation in the provision of Payment Securities.”
Addressing the press in Parliament on Thursday, former Deputy Minister of Energy and Petroleum, John Jinapor, said the concession agreement began in a very competitive and transparent manner by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with six pre-qualified companies.
“Government deliberately altered original agreement and awarded contract to PDS,” the Minority noted.
According to the NDC group, the suspension was a deliberate attempt by the government to cover up the fraudulent activity.
“We want this contract to be terminated without delay because we warned them but they refused to listen to good counsel and went ahead,” Mr Jinapor added.
