Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Ken Agyapong, wants Midland Savings and Loans closed down for its role in the brutality meted out to the nursing mother at their premises.
He says the closure will enable the Bank of Ghana further scrutinize operations of their activities because, according to him, it was mind-boggling that people would descend on the policeman while leaving out the bank staff who went for the assaulted woman’s baby so that the police officer could continue with his act.

Citing the DKM saga as an example, he said some microfinance companies have taken their customers for granted.
A lady, Patience Sarfo, was assaulted by a police officer on duty at Midland Savings and Loans, an act that has gone viral and drawn a lot of outrage from the public.
Management of Midland Savings and Loans have apologised over the incidence and promised to compensate the victim.

The bank has also suspended some staff who were on duty on the day of the assault.
But the maverick legislator told Omanhene Kwabena Asante on Adom TV’s Morning Show Badwam Tuesday that the suspension of the staff was not enough to mitigate the suffering poor customers go through in the hands of such financial institutions.
He wants the company, as well as other microfinance and savings and loans companies closed and thoroughly examined.

“Who says suspension alone is the solution? Yes, you have suspended them but I am calling on the Bank of Ghana to immediately close down the company.
“These microfinance and saving and loans institutions are taking their customers for granted. When customers want to withdraw their monies, then they begin to assault them. I am shocked that Ghanaians have not learnt from the DKM saga,” he said.
