Members of Parliament (MP) are asking government for better remuneration for effective discharge of their duties.
The MPs argued that the standard at which the public measure the institution should come with better conditions of service.
Currently, MPs are paid around GHS 8,000 monthly while Ministers receive GHS15, 739. The President and Vice-President take home a monthly salary of GHS22, 809 and GHS20, 529, respectively.
Contributing to a joint statement on the floor of Parliament by Ho West MP and Juabeng MP Ama Pomaa-Boateng respectively as part of the Global Legislative Openness Week (GLOW) celebration, Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said lawmakers must be treated well if the demand for accountability is to see the light of day.
Speaking with Adom News, MP for Ho West, Emmanuel Akwasi Bedzrah said he takes home less than Ghc 2,000 monthly due to the demands on MPs from constituents.
