Audio: MP threatens anyone who opposes Oti Region creation; cautions Togbe Afede

The Member of Parliament for Krachi East and Deputy Minister for Sanitation, Michael Gyato is threatening bloodshed if anyone from the Volta South opposes the creation of Oti Region.

He told Adom News’ Mubarak Yakubu that the President of the National House of Chiefs and President of the Asogli Traditional Area, Togbe Afede XIV is the one behind those campaigning for a “NO” vote against the creation of the Oti Region.

“We have had enough of our people from the Volta South, led by Togbe Afede; we’ve had enough of them. We have petitioned the president that we need a region for development and I must emphasize that it is not those who are leaving with us in the region but rather those who are staying outside the Oti enclave who want to sabotage the people of Oti,” he fumed.

According to him, the court has declared, by unanimous decision, that those who have petitioned are the ones with the right to vote, unfortunately, it is those who haven’t petitioned who are opposing the creation of the Oti Region.

He threatened bloodshed if the people of Volta South attempt to campaign against the creation of Oti Region in the Northern part of the Volta Region.

“For me as a Member of Parliament, I have spoken to my people; now that the court has declared, nobody can come from Volta South without any locus within the proposed Oti enclave and campaign for “NO”.

If they want “NO” they should go and petition the president that they want “NO”.

We want to tell him [Torgbe Afede] that he should tell his people to stay off our proposed Oti Region,” he emphasized.

Hon. Michael Gyato added that they wouldn’t have a problem if anyone from the region campaigns against the creation of the region.

“We wouldn’t have a problem if anyone from the Volta South leaves within the Oti enclave and campaigns against the creation of Oti Region”

He cautioned Togbe Afede and his people to stay off the creation of the Oti Region.

He called on the government to tighten security during the Oti Region referendum.
