The Royal Commonwealth Society Africa has disassociated itself from Miss Commonwealth Ghana beauty pageant.

It follows allegations of assault leveled against organisers of the pageant by one of the contestants, Nana Ama Essien.
However, some people are blaming the Royal Commonwealth Society Africa for accrediting the organisation to organise the pageant which led to the alleged assault and abuse of the rights of one of the contestants.
Due to the public backlash, the Africa head of the Commonwealth, John Apea on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Tuesday said Miss Commonwealth Ghana is not affiliated to them.

Rather, he said, the franchise was given to the organisers by Miss Commonwealth United Kingdom.
The Commonwealth Representative for the Africa region said within the Commonwealth of Nation Networks, Miss Commonwealth Ghana is not part of them.

They have organisations like The Commonwealth Human Right Initiative, the Royal Commonwealth Society, Commonwealth Bar Association, the Commonwealth Journalists Association and many others accredited by the Network.
Mr Apea said their focus is to promote peace, democracy, equality and rule of law, thus, will not support any group which seeks to subvert the right of any individual.
