Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) knew it would lose December 7 general elections.
“I am not surprised at all. NDC knew they would lose this election. They knew it was for Nana Addo. Wherever they got to during their campaign tours, people were showing them signs or gestures of change. Asiedu Nketia and Mahama were all aware…” he said.
President John Mahama lost the December polls by a huge margin to three time presidential hopeful, Nana Akufo-Addo who polled 53 percent of the total votes cast.
This results according to political pundits is the worse electoral results of the ruling party under the leadership of President Mahama. In spite of this poor performance, the NDC is confident it would win the 2020 general elections.
But Sir John maintained that, the national leadership of the NDC is to blame for the gargantuan defeat.
He noted that, though the knew the NDC was losing the elections, executives like Director of Elections, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho lied to the president.
“Mahama knew very well he would lose. The president wanted to leave the seat for Akufo-Addo right from the morning of December 7 but officials like Anyidoho and Ofosu Ampofo been around him stopped him. We knew ahead we had won with the votes we collated” he added.
Sir John urged the NDC to put their house in order to ensure unity before seeking for the national office.
