AUDIO: Mahama is the best bet, stop wasting resources – Victor Smith tells Alabi, Spio et al

-

Ghana’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Victor Smith, says former President John Mahama is the best candidate to lead the party in the 2020 elections.

He urged members of the NDC seeking to lead the party in the 2020 elections to rather channel their resources and support to John Mahama instead of putting up a challenge to former President John Mahama at the party’s primaries.

“Mahama is the one we need in the driver’s seat and not anyone. He is the one who has been tried and tested. I urge those seeking to contest him to rather come together and support him instead of challenging him. They won’t succeed. They will only waste their resources and money”, he said.

Ambassador Victor Smith was speaking on Asempa FM’s ‘Ekosii Sen’ Programme Monday.

His call comes on the back of the declaration by Mr. Mahama that he will contest the party’s primaries, scheduled for November this year.

“The zeal and determination of the average sympathizer of our great party is greater and miles ahead of what it was after the December 2016 Elections. We need to keep up with the momentum generated and follow the published timelines.

“To you, the teeming supporters and sympathizers calling and requesting me to declare my intentions for the future, I wish to assure you today, that as a servant-leader, I have listened to your calls and reflected. I will not disappoint you even as we await the publication of the party’s guidelines for selecting a new leader,” Mahama wrote on Facebook Saturday.

Following that declaration, Ambassador Victor Smith believes the NDC should field no other candidate than the former President if it is really interested in capturing power from the NPP in 2020.

Mr. Smith stated that although fielding Mr. Mahama will increase the NDC’s chances of winning the 2020 elections, it is equally essential for the party to “correct” the internal bickering to ensure that every requirement needed for victory is met.
