Audio: Mahama appointed me but I know he is incompetent – former Ambassador jabs

Former Consul General to Dubai under the John Mahama regime, Daniel Osei, is cautioning the NDC against electing former President John Mahama as flagbearer.

Ambassador Osei says Mr Mahama still has the corruption tag over his neck like an albatross.

Mahama appointed me but I know he is incompetent; the NDC will be doomed if we make him flagbearer” he stated on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday.

Even before President Mahama declares his intention to contest the flagbearership race of the NDC, there is a grand swell of endorsements for his candidature.

Some Minority Members of Parliament are collating signatures and even contributing money to support former President Mahama’s campaign.

The MPs led by Dr Clement Apaak and Abu Jinapor are convinced the NDC can come back to power if Mr Mahama is made flagbearer.

But Ambassador Daniel Osei vehemently disagrees, insisting that it will rather be a recipe for disaster.

In his view, the former President who described himself as a “dead goat” does not inspire confidence.

The former Dubai Consul General said he was not surprised about the supposed endorsement since it has been the status quo.

We’ve seen this movie before. Leading up to the 2016 elections, chant of ‘Mahama has won already’ made the party, and in particular the campaign organizers and engineers, oblivious to the real situation on the ground”, he stated.

Ambassador Osei maintained that the former President gave the NDC the worst margin of defeat in their history as a party and country in 2016 general elections.

He is calling for a new paradigm shift in the NDC if the party is serious about winning the 2020 elections.

I’m making all these noises because I know we will lose if Mahama is made flagbearer.  Ghanaians are ready for real change so this is a golden opportunity for us all to take off our partisan huts and put Ghana first”.
