Former Energy Minister, Dr. Kwabena Donkor has claimed that the lackadaisical work attitude of some staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been part of the reasons for the poor performance of the electricity distribution company over the years.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Tuesday, Kwabena Donkor said the other factors include the over-politisation of the work of ECG by both political actors and persons who are aligned to one political cause or the other.
Staggering debt of over $2billion accrued over mismanagement has largely been tipped as the reason for the privatisation of ECG.
The explanation offered by government communicators notwithstanding, some Ghanaians have argued that Government is capable of handling the situation without selling it.
However, Dr. Donkor believes that is far from reality if the attitudes of workers, politicians and the public towards dealing with government institutions don’t change, the best option is to privatise.
