The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has debunked news reports they are using vigilante group Delta Force to relocate traders and transport operators from unapproved areas in the city to the Race Course.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the assembly, Okumah Nyame Godwin, told Adom News the relocation exercise of the traders and transport operators is been supervised by a joint security task force led by DSP Kingsley Kwame Kawodie.
He explained that the task force is made up of the Military, the Ghana Police, the Ghana National Fire Service, NADMO, KMA Metro Guards, and the representatives of the traders and transport operators.
“So far as the assembly is concerned, we have not engaged the services of the Delta Force gorup for this decongestion exercise, we only deal with the military, the police and other security agents, led by DSP Kinglsey Kwame Kawodie. It will be very surprising that one will say we are using Delta Force in this exercise,” he bemoaned.
With the caption ‘KMA Recruits Delta Force to Evict Traders’ on Monday, November 6, 2017, starrfmonline.com reported that the KMA is engaging members of the Delta Force, a pro NPP vigilante group to evict traders and transport operators from unapproved areas in the city.
But Mr Okumah Nyame Godwin rejected claims that the traders are protesting against the decision of relocating them to Race Course, claiming the new space provided for them is uncompleted and not fit for trading activities.
