AUDIO: Dept E/R Minister’s resignation ‘senseless’ – NDC man

-

Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bismarck Tawiah Boateng, has described as ‘senseless’ the decision by the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Joseph Tetteh, to resign as a deputy minister.

According to him, Mr Tetteh resigned because he was underperforming as far as the governance of Ghana is concerned.

He wondered how he would be able to perform as a Member of Parliament if he failed to perform as a Minister.

“I think Joseph Tetteh’s decision to resign doesn’t make sense. You failed to perform when you were a deputy minister and now you want to concentrate on being an MP. He underperformed as a deputy minister so what can he do [as an MP]? He should come again because I think there is more to his resignation” he said on Accra-based Neat FM monitored by Adomonline.com.

Mr Joseph Tetteh has explained that he resigned to focus on parliamentary duties in the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency.

The immediate past Deputy Minister is the first NPP candidate to have won a seat in the Krobo area, a known NDC stronghold.

In his letter to the President, the Deputy Minister explained that his ministerial work was hampering his parliamentary duties.

According to him, since his seat is the only one the NPP has won in the Krobo area, it was essential for him to focus on retaining the position in 2020.

I am reminded that there is an enormous amount of work to be done to consolidate the gains made in the 2016 election and deepen our footprint in the constituency. I have therefore decided in the best interest of the party and given the heavy demands combining both duties as a Deputy Minister and parliamentarian, particularly for a constituency, whose seat is nascent to our party, to respectfully seek your kind indulgence to tender my resignation with immediate effect“, his letter stated in part.

Mr Tawiah Boateng has advised Mr Tetteh not to bother contesting the seat again in the Krobo area because his dream of becoming an MP again will be thwarted by the NDC.

“Krobo is the stronghold of the NDC and so if he thinks he will win the seat, then he should think twice,” he warned.
