Audio: Cocoa prices not changed – Hackman Owusu Agyemang

-

The Board Chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) Hackman Owusu-Agyeman has debunked rumors about cocoa pricing for the next season.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority Caucus in Parliament has asked Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana COCOBOD not to interfere in fixing producer price for cocoa farmers.

Prior rumors going rounds on social media claims the board chairman of COCOBOD, Mr Hackman Owusu Agyeman has commended the increased prices to a producer price for cocoa farmers and further sold fertilizer intended to be free for cocoa farmers at a price.

But Mr Owusu Agyeman speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Thursday said the price of the next cocoa season is yet to be determined.

According to him, the committee in charge of the prices and production of cocoa has not briefed him on the increment of prices hence the minority in parliament aren’t telling the truth in the matter.

“I don’t know what they want to achieve with this situation. The committee in charge of pricing is not done with their work. They have not even started. The season starts in October 1. We haven’t said anything like that. I have not said anything relating to the cocoa prices. I am not the PRO. That’s not what I am vying for. It’s not good to disgrace me on social media…” he explained.

He revealed that, some of the farmers sell the free fertilizers to farmers in Cote I’voire where they utilize to increase cocoa production in their country.

He however maintained that, the team in charge of cocoa pricing will soon finish their work and the public will be enlightened on the matter around October 1.

“There NDC people don’t say the truth. I am not a chief executive. I have not spoken about the cocoa prices for almost two months. That sort of thing should stop. I was very angry yesterday. I didn’t hear the press conference. I don’t understand because the committee in charge of the cocoa hasn’t said anything. I don’t know the truth in what they [NDC} are saying…” he stated.
