Chiefs and people of Assin Akropong-Odumasi in the Assin North district of the Central Region have vowed to arrest men responsible for impregnating young girls in the area.
Chief of Assin Akropong-Odumasi, Nana Ntow Esinor said the Central Region has consistently topped the chart of regions with the highest number of teenage pregnancies in the country.
The situation he said, has become a big worry and has decided to drag the irresponsible men to court to face the full rigorous of the law.
He said some school girls have had to drop out of school as a result of early pregnancy.
The chances of school girls, Nana Ntow Esinor said advancing in their academic pursuit reduces when they get pregnant.
On his part, Assembly Member of Akropong-Odumasi electoral area, Alexander Larbi told Adom News with stiffer punishment being introduced, it will deter the men in the area from impregnating young girls.
A 2014 report on teenage pregnancy in Ghana compiled by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, observed that people living along the coastal areas particularly the Central Region, and the Greater Accra Region, witnessed high rates of teenage pregnancy prevalence.
