The Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul has revealed that the decision to build a new chamber for Parliament is not before Cabinet.
According to him, he is shocked Members of Parliament (MPs) are being lampooned when the intent was made public because it never came up on the floor of the House.
Hon. Nitiwul’s comment follows allegations by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the new chamber is an agenda of the government to create new constituencies.

MDC’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, claimed that the expansion of the camber from 275 to 450 seats is to create space for new MPs who will be elected.
But Hon. Nitiwul, sharing his views on the matter, said the decision for a new chamber is being championed by the leadership of Parliament and not the government.

“Building of a new chamber is alien to me; it has not come to Cabinet. If it is a project that Parliament really wants to do, it will come to Cabinet,” he stated on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Thursday.
This notwithstanding, Hon. Nitiwul, who is also the MP for Bimbilla in the Northern region, said the idea is good but the timing is very bad.

“Parliament represents the people of Ghana so if the people say they don’t want it, why will you do it?” he quizzed.
Hon. Nitiwul said when the issue comes to the floor of the House; he will go back to his people in Bimbilla for their position and will vote accordingly.
