Audio: Boy, 6, drowns in Lake Volta during school hours

A six-year-old boy, identified as Benjamin Adu Gyamfi, a pupil of Roman Catholic Basic School in Yeji in the Bono East region, on Thursday drowned in the Volta Lake during school hours.

Reports gathered by Adom News suggested that Benjamin’s uniform was found at the lake shore after residents rushed to the scene upon hearing the news.

Speaking to Adom News, Benjamin’s mother, Leticia Asiedu said they have only been in the area for about four months now.

“I was at home when a boy rushed in to ask of Ben only to tell me he was sent to buy water but bought bread instead and when asked to go and change for the water, he had since not returned and so he was here to check if he was home.

“So I quickly rushed to the school to ask of him only to be told he wasn’t around and minutes later, people rushed to tell me his body had been found in the water,” she narrated.

The body has since been sent to the St. Mathias Catholic Hospital for autopsy.
