The chief of Assin Adadientem in the Assin South district of the Central region, Nii Lantei Tuaka II has taken a swipe at the officials of the Forestry Commission in the area.
He accused officials of the commission of aiding illegal chain saw operation in the area.
According to the chief, though some officials of the commission are very had working, majority of them are corrupt.
He believes those one are currently assisting illegal chain saw operators to cut down different species of trees, and also destroyed other young trees.
“Some forestry officials go deep into the forest with illegal chain saw operators and illegally identify the type of threes to cut. We don’t sleep because they usually intensify their activities during the night.
“We are tired of their activities and we want government to deal with them to serve as a deterrent to others” he added.

Meanwhile, the Assin Area Manager of Forestry Commission, Samuel Kyei, reiterated his commitment to deal ruthlessly with any corrupt official.
He therefore called on Ghanaians to help the Commission with information of illegal chain saw operation since they are understaffed to be everywhere.
