General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has explained why the sole rival to the incumbent Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak, was disqualified.

Mr Nketia said actions of Masawudu Mubarick in the Asawase Constituency was in breach of the party’s rules and regulations.

He said the decision was based on recommendations by the Doe Adjaho-led Committee for Settlement of Outstanding Disputes, which was tasked to deal with all disputes and petitions pertaining to the internal polls.

According to him, Mr Mubarick even on suspension was seen campaigning in the constituency on grounds that he will not accept his suspension.

“When he was called by the committee, the committee realised that some of his statements were false. Also, he was on suspension but was seen campaigning even when it was not ready for them to campaign,” he told Accra based Okay FM, monitored by Adomonline.com.

He said it was also revealed that per interrogations with some members of Asawase, Mr Mubarick had never held any position in the party.

Mr Nketia further noted that before the disqualification, Mr Mubarick was invited by the committee for interrogation after granting an interview and claiming that he had been cleared which was false.

The decision by the Doe Adjaho-led Committee, therefore means Mr Mubarick, who is seeking re-election, automatically becomes the candidate for the 2020 polls.
