Minority Chip Whip has described as “ridiculous and shameful” government’s announcement of additional 54 ministers Wednesday.

Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak said the unpopular move by President Akufo-Addo will have dire consequences on the economy.

The President has announced a list of 50 deputy Ministers and four (4) Ministers of state, bringing the total number of Ministerial appointees in the government to 110.

Some of the Ministries especially Agriculture, Information, Energy and Local Government, have been assigned three (3) deputy Ministers with others having two deputy Ministers.

Sections of Ghanaians have taken to social media to register their displeasure with the decision christening it “the biggest government in the history of the country.”

But Minister for Information, Mustapha Hamid explained the large number of ministers is to help the President executive his programme.

He also explained that, Ghanaians should prefer a President who will assemble a “huge team of competent people” than the one who will appoint a small number of Ministers who will misapply state funds. He indicated that, from former Presidents Rawlings, Kufuor, the late Atta Mills, and John Mahama, President Akufo-Addo’s is the biggest. He also bemoaned how Parliament has been drained after majority of the deputy minister were taken from the August House. Alhaji Muntaka is anticipating that there would be a clash of roles between the deputy ministers which he believes could be a recipe for disaster.
