Audio: Akufo-Addo will never support galamsey – Abronye DC

-

Maverick Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye DC has reiterated the Akufo-Addo administration’s determination to fight against illegal mining.

According to him, the NPP government is ready to resolve its fight against illegal mining also known as ‘galamsey’ even if it meant losing votes in the 2020 elections.

“When it comes to the galamsey fight, Nana Addo is ready to deal with it and will do it once and for all. We didn’t mount the platform to tell Ghanaians we will legalise galamsey during the 2016 election. We are concerned about the water bodies and Nana Addo won’t allow anyone to destroy our environment” he said.

Mr. Kwame Baffoe was speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Monday.

Since the Media Coalition Against Galamsey launched its campaign, various interest groups have attempted to frustrate the effort.

Even now, small-scale miners have issued an ultimatum to the government, calling on it to come clean over what the “stop the galamsey campaign” is all about.

Again, a section of galamsey operators has dared the government to kick them out of business and face the consequence in the next general election.

But commenting on the issue, the outspoken NPP man noted that the quality of water from rivers and other water bodies have been deteriorating over the years, adding that mining is a major contributory factor to the problem.

This notwithstanding, he stressed that the NPP government will not relent on its fight to stop Galamsey.

He, however, called on the various stakeholders to draw a distinction between small-scale mining and illegal mining.
