The African University College of Communications (AUCC) held a memorial service in hounor of its late senior Dr. Kabu Okai-Davies.
Dr. Okai-Davies died on 17 February 2017 after an intense battle with cancer; he was 56 years old and was married to Pauline Okai-Davies and their two children.
In attendance was AUCC’s President, Dr. Wright Anim-Koryoe, staff, alumni, and the entire AUCC community were there in their numbers to mourn the late lecturer.
The 2012 flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Dr. Foster Abu Sakara was at the memorial service at the forecourt of AUCC on Friday March 10, 2017.
Literature legend and a Pan Africanist, was born in Ayalolo a suburb of Accra on 21st March 1960.
His father is the late Kofi Davies, a diplomat under the Nkrumah, Ankrah and Busia administration.
Dr Kabu Okai- Davies was the Conventions People Party (CPP) parliamentary candidate for Korle Klottey Constituency in Accra in 2012 elections.
Okai-Davies was an African-Australian poet, playwright and novelist from Ghana. He studied at University of Ghana, Rutgers-Newark, and NYU School of Continuing Education.
He was the Founder and producer of African Globe Theatre Works in Newark, New Jersey from 1992 -2005.
He moved from America to Australia in 2006 and worked as a Playwright-In-Residence, Street Theatre, Producer National Multicultural Festival and Manager of the Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre.
He studied at Oxford University’s Creative Writing Summer Program and graduated with a Master of Studies at Australian National University; a Master of Creative Writing and PhD in Communications; University of Canberra.
Author of two poetry collections The Long Road to Africa and Symphony of Words; Okai-Davies has written articles and stories for Daily Graphic, The Spectator, Public Agenda and The Finder, in Ghana.
