Athletic Bilbao celebrates Inaki Williams’ decade in the first team

Spanish La Liga club Athletic Bilbao has commemorated the 10th anniversary of forward Inaki Williams’ first-team debut.

Williams, born to Ghanaian parents, made his debut for the Basque club on December 6, 2014.

A month later, in January 2015, he signed his first professional contract after progressing through the club’s youth system.

Over the past decade, the 29-year-old has become a cornerstone of the team, amassing 441 appearances and scoring 105 goals. His tally places him as the 14th-highest scorer in Athletic Bilbao’s history.

In a heartfelt tribute posted on social media platform X, the club wrote: “Ten years since Iñaki Williams’ official debut. How many moments by your side… and the ones we have ahead together! Step by step, writing with golden letters the history of this Athletic. We love you, Iñaki,”

Williams has been instrumental in the team’s success, including helping them clinch the Spanish Copa del Rey last season. This year, he is spearheading their push for a coveted UEFA Champions League spot.

Bilbao recently extended their impressive winning streak to three matches, capped by a victory over reigning champions Real Madrid.

The Ghana international will aim to maintain his stellar form as Athletic Bilbao prepares to face Villarreal at the San Mamés this Sunday.
