Former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the District Assembly election is a barometer for the 2020 general election.
The Assembly and Unit Committee members’ election is expected to take place today, December 17, 2019 across all the 16 regions in Ghana, except three districts.
According to Bernard Allotey Jacobs, there is a lot of voter apathy among Ghanaians which is reflecting at the local levels and does not augur well for Ghana’s political sphere.

“We know the district assemblies are not like the general election but the turnout and participation have gone down. This is a barometer to determine who wins the general election but it seems people have lost interest,” he said.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Tuesday, the Social Democrat urged political parties to up their game at the local level.

“We are politically blinded and sometimes don’t come to a common table to agree on issues but the people are now enlightened so you can no longer buy their conscience,” he noted.
