National President of Ghana Association of Certifies Registered Anaesthetists (GACRA), Jacob Mbuer Wumbei is calling on members of the Association to remain calm as it investigates the alleged assault on their member by a medical doctor at the Tema General Hospital.
Earlier reports in sections of the media said Dr. Lawrence Hoedoafia battered an Anesthetist on duty, Regina Efia Biama.
Mrs. Biama complained of body pains and swollen forehead and mouth after Dr. Hoedoafia allegedly slapped her and she eventually sank into a sofa in the process.
She was reported as saying the doctor grabbed her by the legs and pulled her off the sofa and her head hit a refrigerator’s wooden stand.
“He then stepped on my abdomen and if it hadn’t been my braids I’m sure my head injury would have been worse,” the 38-year-old mother of three stated.
Mrs. Biama said her offence was her lateness to a night shift on July 19, 2017 and at about 10pm, a fuming Dr. Hoedoafia accosted her in the Nurses’ Rest Room and rained insults on her.
According to her the doctor called her all kinds of names and at some point she returned the favour and that was when he started battering her.
Since the news broke, some registered Anaesthetists have been raging for justice.
But their National President, Jacob Mbuer Wumbei said the victim has duly reported the matter to the GACRA and they are following due process to get proper redress.
“GAGRA will not allow such behaviour to go under the carpet if it found out that the member was truly assaulted. There are laid down rules to deal with staff of Ghana Health Service and not in the manner being alleged,” he said.
He said this is a matter of alleged misconduct by one professional against the other and not a battle between two professional bodies, as in GACRA against Ghana Medical Association (GMA).
