The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged party members in the Upper East Region to set aside differences from the recent parliamentary primaries and unite for victory in the upcoming December 7 elections.
In the Navrongo Central Constituency, tensions flared following the primaries, leading to a divide between supporters of the incumbent MP, Sampson Chiragia, and those backing the newly elected parliamentary candidate, Simon Aworigo.
These tensions culminated in clashes after Chiragia lost his seat.
During a three-day visit to the region, Asiedu Nketia addressed party supporters in Naaga, calling for reconciliation and unity to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
He stressed the importance of solidarity and teamwork for the NDC’s success in December.
“My message to Navrongo Central is this: if we want to thrive and succeed, we must do it together. If we choose conflict, we’ll all suffer together. The situation after the primaries was dire, but I intervened, and I’m pleased with the progress in cooperation so far.
“The real issue lies not with the candidates themselves but with their supporters. While Sampson and Simon may be ready to work together, their supporters remain divided, with one side saying, ‘No Sampson, no Simon,’ and the other saying, ‘No Simon, no Sampson,” he said.
