Asiedu Nketia accuses House of Chiefs president of campaigning for NPP

National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has accused the President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, of abandoning his neutral stance and engaging in partisan politics by allegedly campaigning for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to residents of Odumase in the Asante Akim Central Constituency during his Ashanti Regional campaign on Sunday, November 10, Asiedu Nketia expressed concern that, instead of using his position to mediate the ongoing parliamentary impasse, the National House of Chiefs’ president has shown public support for the NPP.

Asiedu Nketia believes this could potentially compromise the credibility of the institution and weaken the democratic process. He further alleged that Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II has misused his position, compromising the integrity of traditional leadership.

“As president of the National House of Chiefs, I have seen him in NPP-branded clothing, campaigning for the party in his hometown. How can a leader of our traditional authorities address the wrongs of the governing party if he openly supports them?” Asiedu Nketia questioned.

He also pointed out that Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II has not issued any statements criticizing the government, and Asiedu Nketia emphasized that the National House of Chiefs should be playing a more active role in addressing the country’s challenges, particularly in resolving the ongoing parliamentary impasse.
