A group of AshantiGold Soccer Club supporters has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to reconsider and lift the suspension imposed on their club.
The fans travelled from Obuasi to the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram to present their appeal to the GFA ahead of the 30th Ordinary Congress.
AshantiGold, former champions of the Ghana Premier League, has been suspended since 2023 due to their involvement in a match-fixing scandal during the 2021/22 season.
The club faced penalties, including relegation to a lower division, following allegations related to a match against Inter Allies.
While some of the other parties involved in the scandal have had their sentences overturned, AshantiGold’s suspension remains.
The fans are now calling on the GFA to lift the ban so that the club can return to competitive play.
If the GFA decides to lift the suspension, AshantiGold would compete in the second division, which was the result of their earlier involvement with banned officials before the suspension was imposed.
