The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has indicated that the police and National Security have commenced investigations into the disruption of the Council of State election in the region.
Some thugs invaded the polling venue on Tuesday, disrupting the process and assaulting some journalists covering the election.
Meanwhile, former Obuasi MCE, Ofori Agyemang, has denied any association with the thugs who led the disruption.
According to the Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Francis Osei Nsiah, its staff who supervised the election escaped unhurt.
However, three EC staff sustained injuries during an attack on the office. They have since been treated and discharged.
Mr. Nsiah indicated that the EC is unable to continue the electoral process as ballot papers and other equipment sent to the election grounds were destroyed.
He stated that the Commission has no documents to aid in declaring the results of Tuesday’s election.
Meanwhile, the campaign team of one of the candidates, Rose Hamilton, visited the EC office to check on staff affected by the attack.
Dr. Keskine Owusu Poku led the team.
