Chief of Anitemfi in the Ahafo Ano South-West District of Ashanti Region, Nana Kwame Abebrese has bemoaned the lack of electricity connectivity to about thirty communities in the area.
He says the lack of power supply poses a threat to education in ICT of their wards.
Aside from being deprived of electricity supply, mobile network connectivity remains another challenge of the people.
Nana Kwame Abebrese said, “Education is now technology based. When your child is going to school, he will need a tablet or laptop. But we don’t have electricity in this community, so how do our children benefit. We are not connected to the Internet as well”.
The Chief further explained healthcare delivery is negatively affected, “The clinic will have to store some drugs in a refrigerator but there is no electricity”.
The NDC campaign team was welcomed by pitch darkness when they touched down at Anitemfi.
Despite the darkness, many voters gathered in anticipation for the NDC’s campaign message.
The NDC Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah who is on what he calls a retail campaign expressed disappointment in the community’s deprivation.
He says the next NDC government is committed to alleviating the plight of residents of small communities.
“The cameras have captured the level of deprivation here. This is an NPP stronghold but little development have been seen since they took over power. After 28 years of voting NPP, there is no electricity, Roads are also poor”, he said.
In improving the economic wellbeing of residents, the NDC Chairman says the party will ensure a part of revenue accrued from cocoa trade will be invested in such communities.
