Asante Kotoko has announced its withdrawal from all football activities in response to the tragic death of a dedicated supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as Nana Pooley.
Nana Pooley, who was also a Communications Member of the Supporters’ Group, was fatally stabbed by unknown attackers during their Matchday 19 fixture at Nana Kronmansah Park in Twumasikrom.
In a statement released on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the club confirmed that all first-team activities would be suspended until justice is served.
To ensure justice, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has postponed the Matchday 20 games.
Additionally, Nana Kronmansah Park has been banned indefinitely, and four Asante Kotoko players, along with six Nsoatreman FC players, are facing charges from the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee.
In a further development, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the owner and financier of Nsoatreman FC, along with two others, has been arrested by the Bono Regional Police.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare, has also held talks with the leadership of Asante Kotoko on Tuesday.
