Asante Kotoko coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum has indicated that the club will be active in the upcoming January transfer window to strengthen their squad.
Ahead of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, the Porcupine Warriors underwent a major squad overhaul, signing 14 players while releasing 19.
After 13 matches, Kotoko currently sit 6th on the league table with 21 points, just three points behind league leaders Kpando Heart of Lions.
Despite their competitive position, Ogum emphasized the need to bolster the squad further.
”There are a lot. We are going to see a lot of signings, that is if all things go well. We’ve started a lot of talking and then we are sure that we will get them (their transfer targets). So we are hoping and praying that things change and even if they do, they go in our favour so that we can augment the team.”
The coach also highlighted the importance of internal competition for maintaining performance levels.
”Once we have more quality in the team, everybody wakes up. No one turns into a sleeper train because you know that when you lose your guard, someone is coming to play (in your stead),” Ogum concluded.
Asante Kotoko has already made a notable acquisition by bringing back striker Kwame Opoku on a free transfer. Opoku, who had less successful spells at USM Alger in Algeria and Olympique Khouribga in Morocco, has returned to Kotoko to make his mark.
“He is happy to be back to the club to also contribute his quota. We know he had the eye for goal and that’s the reason we are bringing him on board to come score. Either he is scoring or he is assuring other teammates to also score,” coach Prosper Narteh Ogum said.
Next on the agenda for Asante Kotoko is an away fixture against Dreams FC on Matchday 14, set to be played at the Tuba Astro Turf.
