A Governance Expert and Dean of Students at the Heritage Christian University College, Professor Ebenezer Ayesu has clarified the controversy surrounding the appointment of Nana Asante Bediatuo as an Ambassador at Large.

He explained that, the Executive Secretary to President Akufo-Addo’s new role can simply be termed as an “International Messenger”.

In an interview with Adom News, Professor Ayesu said the role is not like an ambassador-in-residence, who is usually limited to a specific country or embassy.

Rather, he said as an Ambassador at Large “he is entrusted to operate in several neighboring countries, a region or sometimes hold a seat in an international organization like the United Nations and the other international organizations”.

President Akufo-Addo on Monday sworn-in Nana Asante Bediatuo and nine newly appointed diplomats.

Presenting letters of appointment, the President charged them to promote the image of Ghana as a stable, peaceful, and forward-looking country.

The appointment has generated a lot of controversy with many questioning whether Nana Bediatuo will still be the Executive Secretary at the Presidency.

But Prof Ayesu indicated that, this is not the first time such an appointment has been made.

He added that, Nana Asante Bediatuo will not be paid an additional salary for his new role.
