Asante Akyem North MP speaks on 3,000 bags of fertilisers uncovered at Agogo

Asante Akyem North Member of Parliament(MP) Andy Appiah-Kubi has clarified circumstances surrounding some 3,000 bags of fertilisers uncovered in a warehouse at Agogo.

The fertilizers were uncovered by National Democratic Congress(NDC) members who claimed to be a taskforce of the Operation Recover All Loot(ORAL) on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

However, the outgoing MP has explained that the fertilisers were not in the warehouse for wrong reasons.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, lawyer Appiah-Kubi stated that, the fertilisers were meant for distribution to farmers.

He noted that, the distribution process commenced about two years ago and was ongoing but suspended due to the December 7 election.

“The fertilizer is not for me. We have over the years being sharing it for farmers. Last year we targeted rice farmers and we also shared weedicides and we always keep them in the warehouse.

“We were handicapped with regards to the personnel for the distribution so we suspended the process,” he stated.

The MP explained that, some of the fertilisers were kept at the Assembly warehouse but were slotted and stolen by unknown persons.

“The matter was reported to the police and investigation was commenced. So I had to meet the owner of the private warehouse for space after the robbery,” he noted.

The MP emphasized that the fertilisers are not being hoarded for sale to farmers or any shady deal and the constituents can testify.
