A primary school at Ananekrom in the Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti region has more than 100 pupils from kindergarten to class six under one roof.
Checks by Adom News’ reporter Isaac Amoako revealed that aside congestion, there was also shortage of desks which compelled three or four pupils to share one desk.
Speaking to Adom News , the assistant headmaster of the school, Mr Isaac Abakar Tawiah made a passionate appeal to the government, civil society organisations and individuals to come to the aid of the school.

“The number of classrooms is not enough for us and so we have about 140 pupils in a class. It is an old building that has gone through series of renovations over the years. We don’t even have a staff common room as teachers.
“The entire building has cracks all over and the Assembly is very much aware because they have been here several times to survey the place, but nothing has been done,” he added.
A teacher in the school, Ruth Brefo also revealed that they do not have lights at their place of residence which is affecting their level of output.

“There is less concentration during teaching and learning due to the large number in the classrooms. We are not even able to go round to crosscheck works done by the pupils because there is no access path in the classrooms,” she stated.
Some of the pupils also appealed to the government to come to their aid because they are really suffering.
“If one person contracts any contagious disease, it easily spreads in the class due to the congestion and the poor ventilation in the room,” they complained.
