Asanko Mines has installed mechanized boreholes in two communities within at Manso Adubia in the Amansie South District of Ashanti region.
The initiative is aimed at providing safe drinking water to host communities and preventing waterborne diseases.
The project is part of the company’s socio-economic development plan to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene.
The beneficiary communities are Manso Adubiaso and Manso Akwasiso.
General Manager of Asanko Mines, Ahmed Mohaidini Yahaya, expressed optimism the project will provide clean water to communities and cut short the long commutes to obtain potable water.
“What we observed in our catchment areas is that all our major rivers such as Offin and Oda are being heavily polluted, so we felt it was good for us to take our project as our priority,” he said.
Adubiasohene, Nana Obeng Beko II, commended Asanko Mines for their timely assistance and assured the traditional authorities would ensure the facility is put to good use.
He appealed to the company to engage young people in the community at the mines to increase youth employment in the mining areas.
“They said, any pit they will work at, most of the youth will be employed, so now that they in our catchment we called on them to employ the youth,” said the chief.
Nana Kwakye Gyimah Yeboah II from Manso Akwasiso also express their gratitude to the Asanko Mines for their continuous support to the community.
“Four years ago, they commissioned their first borehole to the community, and we have taken good care of it to serve it purpose. We will do same to this one,” he said.
