Asampu Assemblyman calls on govt after 5 pregnant women die due to poor roads

-

The Assembly Member for Asampu Electoral Area in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region, Kurinaa James, has raised concerns over the deplorable state of roads in the area.

He revealed that 12 people have lost their lives in the last five years due to the poor road conditions.

Among the deceased were five pregnant women who died in labor and seven children, all between 2019 and 2024.

Kurinaa James explained that the lack of accessible roads forced residents to transport sick children and pregnant women on motorbikes and tricycles over long distances since vehicles avoid the area.

In his appeal, Kurinaa James urgently called for the establishment of a Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound to address the pressing healthcare needs of the community, particularly for maternal care.

He directed his plea to the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, the area’s Member of Parliament, as well as NGOs and philanthropists, hoping for their support to make this project a reality.

The Assembly Member lamented that despite bringing the issue to the attention of local authorities, no action has been taken.

He remains hopeful that his appeal will be heeded, and steps will be taken to improve healthcare and road infrastructure in Asampu.
