Missing Excavators: Arrested persons to be dealt with if found culpable – Information Minister

-

Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has assured of justice delivery in the over 500 missing excavators.

According to the Minister, police investigations have already commenced and persons found culpable in the missing excavators will be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the country.

The minister made the assertion at the official opening of a two-day training workshop for editors and publishers of private newspapers and other media stakeholders.

He further praised Prof. Frimpong-Boateng for taking the appropriate steps in reporting to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the police service for investigations upon realising alleged foul play on the part of Mr Ekow Ewusi, New Patriotic Party’s former Central Regional Vice Chair.

Background

Mr Ewusi was arrested for interrogation at the CID Headquarters in Accra over his role in some missing excavators and other equipment seized from illegal mining operators.

His arrest followed a request made by the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng.

The ‘Request for Investigation’ letter written by Professor Frimpong-Boateng to the Director General of the Police CID said Mr Ekow Awusi was contracted to cart excavators and other vehicles and pieces of equipment seized by Operation Vanguard to designated areas for safe keeping.

The letter further suggested some of the items had gone missing from his care with documents suggesting he signed to authorise the movement of the equipment.
