Arrest persons behind Agyapadie document – Owusu Bempah to IGP

-

The Deputy Director of Communications for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest those responsible for publishing the controversial ‘Agyapadie’ document.

He asserts that the document, which has sparked significant controversy, contains falsehoods and is part of a broader agenda to discredit the NPP government.

During a press conference on Monday, Mr. Bempah stated that the ‘Agyapadie’ document was filled with baseless accusations aimed at tarnishing the NPP’s reputation and undermining its leadership’s credibility.

He emphasized that such actions are not only politically motivated but also harmful to the nation’s democratic process and stability.

Mr. Bempah further argued that the dissemination of the document constitutes a criminal offense, as it seeks to incite public unrest and damage the government’s image without any factual basis.

He urged the IGP to take swift action to identify and apprehend those behind the publication, holding them accountable for their attempts to mislead the public.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining the integrity of the political process, noting that the spread of misinformation and defamatory content could erode public trust in democratic institutions.

Mr. Bempah also called on all political actors to engage in fair and respectful campaigning, focusing on issues and policies rather than resorting to smear tactics.

“As a country, we cannot look on for the NDC to always peddle brazen and wicked falsehoods and later turn around to say this is politics.”

“On this current issue, the publishers of Awake News must be subjected to the full rigours of the law to deter them from hiding behind social media to create confusion in the system.”

“The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, must urgently arrest the people behind the publication of this fictional document and bring them to face the full rigours of the law.”
